June 24, Game 9: at Uriangato
WIN: 12-6
McKinley, Chicago,IL--With our peeps trickling in just as the game started, the Phantoms caught the pisscats by surprise with a high scoring first inning. Not only did a hastily reconfigured batting order manage to keep the line moving, but a pants-just-on couple of batters actually managed to get on the field without slowing things down.
Impressive.
Highlights: A diving catch by LG "We need some fences" Sears. Also a pair of Home Runs by the same. An over the shoulder pop-up catch by Mason "Mendoza Line" Payne. A nasty diving snag by Shawn Cruz "Control." Some strong innings on the mound from Victor "Wheels" Gonzalez who, and this is probably a Bush league first, actually came in for relief of himself... well, that might not be an official Bush League first, but a first for this reporter. What else... I think I remember a pretty tight double play being pulled together thanks to a nice move by Courtney "Gettin' Some" Ayers.
Feel free to remind me of others.
So the rest of the game was pretty much the Phantoms keeping their lead--responding to any scores from the kitties. That's how it's done.
Notes: Vic did not bring beer, but Shawn went and got some. Thus, he takes home MVP honors. At least I heard he was going to...I had to go and take care of a seriously fucked up back.
Second Notes: All Star break is upon us. While the voters sent the entire Chupacabras team to Rockford or wherever the hell they're having the thing, our contracts forbid us from showing up the rest of the league during our vacation. Also, who the fuck wants to go to Rockford? Not this guy.
